Circuit des Remparts 2023 - Plateau Maurice Trintignant - Avant Guerre

 

The winning 1937 Austin Seven of Christian Pedersen.  He dominated practice and the race.

The first race of the weekend at the 2023 Circuit des Remparts at Angoulême was for small capacity pre-war cars.  Thus, this was a field of small cars from Austin, Riley, Salmson, GN and MG.   19 cars took part in this 15 lap race on this short street track of 1.28 kilometres (about 0.8 miles).  This plateau was named after Maurice Trintignant who won the 1949 Circuit des Remparts.   The first ever Circuit des Remparts took place in July 1939 and the circuit still follows the same course.   

The second placed 1937 Austin Seven Pigsty Special of Simon Gallon.

Third place went to French driver Nicolas Komaroff in his 1938 Austin Seven Spéciale.

In fourth place was Simon Frost in his 1934 Austin Seven La Special.

In fifth place was Arnault Lagautriere in his 1929 Austin Seven.

First non-Austin home, in sixth place,  was this lovely 1938 MG TA S driven by Stéphane Goy.

Vintage Revival Montlhéry 2019 - Plateau A - BNCs and others

Unusual 1934 BNC 527 Sirejol on the banking.

Plateau A of the Vintage Revival Montlhéry contained many BNCs as well as other marques such as Salmson, Amilcar and GN.  BNC is not a marque known well outside of vintage car aficionados in France.  It was normally known by its acronym but in full was called Bollack, Netter et Cie after its founders.   Established in 1923 in Paris it lasted until 1931, although afterwards André Sirejol continued producing BNC cars for a number of years.    BNC produced mainly light racing cars competing in events mainly in France and Belgium.  Victories included the 1925 GP de Picardie with the Russian Boris Ivanowski, and the 1927 Bol'Or with the infamous Violette Morris.  Class wins were achieved in the great 24 Hour races at Le Mans in 1928 and at Spa Francorchamps in 1930.

The BNC 527 model was the best known.  The ones called Monza had Ruby engines.

Plateau F at the Vintage Revival Montlhéry 2019 contained many interesting cars including many varieties of Austin Sevens.  Lovely to see all of the pre-war cars on this historic French banked circuit that hosted so many important races and record attempts over the years since it was inaugurated in 1925.  Some of the marques seen in this plateau, such as Salmson raced here in that first season!   Other marques represented such as MG took part in many record breaking attempts here.  An Austin Seven Ulster took part in a 24 hour Montlhery record run in 1928.  Thus this plateau really gave us much bto celebrate the Autodrome's rich history.

We interrupt our coverage of Laguna Seca to bring you photos of a local event in Gallardon, France.  Today was the occasion of the annual demo runs at the Musée Atéliers des Pionniers.   Unfortunately, the weather was not favourable this year but I certainly had an enjoyable hour seeing these lovely old cars, three wheelers and bikes.  Thanks to the participants for coming out on a rainy day.
