Pau Classic Grand Prix 2023 - Formula Ford

 

Saturday's race for the later FF1600 cars. Belgian driver John Svensson in his Ray GR17 leads Hugo Carini in Van Diemen RF90.   At the time it was the battle for second place but Hugo got through and won the race once Christophe Vernet retired.   This was taken from the grandstand at Virage de la Gare.

There were four Formula Ford races at the Pau Classic Grand Prix.  Two were for the earlier Kent engined cars from 1967 to 1989, and two were for the later cars, either Kent or Zetec engined, from 1990 to 1999.  They provided the bulk of the single seater action at Pau this year and were mainly entrants from the various French based championships for Kent and Zetec engined cars.   As usual there was good racing amongst these cars.

First corner on the first lap of Saturday's FF1600 race and Christophe Vernet has taken the lead from pole position in his Van Diemen RF99.  The first four already have quite a lead.

One of the few French marques who made Formula Ford cars.  This is a Mygale SJ03 which was driven into fourth place in Saturdays race for newer FF1600 cars by Eric Heudicourt.

A couple of Van Diemen RF91s battle it out in Saturdays race for the newer FF1600 cars.  Patrick D'Aubreby leads Alain Simon.

61ème Course de Côte du Mont-Dore / Chambon-sur-Lac 2021, Groupe D/E Single Seaters

The Dallara F303 of the fastest class D5S F3 driver Didier Brun.

For the single seaters, at Mont Dore,  as well as the usual F3 and Formula Renault cars there were a trio of Formula Masters cars and a good looking Formula 2 Martini.   There were 29 runners of which most can be seen below.  These are the photos I took near the top of the hill on Saturday when the weather conditions were not so good as later in the weekend. 

Top single seater at Mont Dore was this Tatuus Formula Master of Fabien Ponchant

Second fastest single seater was this Martini Mk 62, (originally a nineties 2 litre French hillclimb car specially built by Martini from a F3 car base)  driven by Pierre Mayeur.  A very nice looking car in was the only D/E 4 1,600-2,000cc runner.

The fastest of the Dallara F3 cars was this Dallara F302 of Didier Brun, seen here through the morning mist.

Fastest of the female competitors at Mont Dore was Cindy Gudet in a Tatuus Formula Master.

Second F3 car was Daniel Allais in a Dallara F308.

Third of the Tatuus Formula Master cars was that of Fabrice Flandy.

2017 Course de Côte régionale de Sancerre

Normas were in abundance at Sancerre this year.  Here is the M20B of Eric Lecerf.

I often start my posts by saying this was my first time at ....., but actually this was my fifth visit to the Course de Côte de Sancerre.  It remains one of my favourite hills and gets a good entry each year, even if this year it was a little down in terms of numbers.  Each year, Serge Thomas wins, so I will have to come again f I want to see a different winner!  This was the 44th running of the Sancerre Hillclimb.  In the old days it was a round of the French National Championship but is now just a regional hillclimb.  It is 1.76km long and very pretty as it runs through the Sancerre vineyards. As with every year the Ecurie Jacques Coeur proved to be excellent organisers of this event.  Almost all of the cars and drivers that competed are pictured below in the order that they were classified.  I took photos during the last part of the practice runs on Saturday 3rd June and during the second runs on Sunday 4th June..

1^st  Serge Thomas, Norma MF20 FC, No.18, Winer overall for the fifth time in a row

Serge was trying very hard on his second run but is seen here sliding wide on turn four so it wasn't his fastest run.  Serge won but didn't beat his course record he set back in 2013.

2^nd  Gaël Boisson, Dallara F307, No.5. Group & Class winner

Gaël was again the main challenger this year but finished three quarters of a second behind Serge.
