61ème Course de Côte du Mont-Dore / Chambon-sur-Lac 2021, Groupe CM

 

Yves Tholy was the winner of the Groupe CM at Mont Dore in this Speedcar GTR and 23rd fastest overall.

Groupe CM in French hillclimbs is a category for lightweight sports prototype cars with up to 1,000cc motor cycle engines as their power unit.    They are thus very quick and agile and faster than most of the other French hillclmb cars except for the faster Norma 2 litre sports prototype cars and Dallara F3 cars.  What adds to the interest in this category is that there are a number of specialist manufacturers such as Speedcar, BRC and Jema who produce a number of very different looking cars.  TracKing even make their cars look like Audi, Mercedes and BMW DTM cars!

This year at Mont-Dore, on the Saturday when I attended, the weather was changeable with mist, fog, rain and even occasionally some sun making an appearance.  Most of the time it was very cold for an August day.   This made for a difficult photography challenge at times, especially as the conditions change so fast on a mountain.

All of the CM runners in 2021 at the Course de Côte du Mont-Dore / Chambon-sur-Lac are shown in this blogpost, in the order that they were classified.  Positions referred to are compared to the other CM cars.

Coming through the mist on Saturday morning is runner-up Julien Francais in a Speedcar GTR.

Looking like an Audi DTM car is a TracKing RC01B.  Driven by Maxime Dojat, it came third.

Fourth was another TracKing RC01, this one more Mercedes-like and driven by Emilien Thomas.

Fifth was Loïc Hebenger in this Speedcar GTR.

Anthony Carifi in his BRC 05 Evo  was sixth.

Seventh was Gaëton Bischoff in his TracKing RC01B, Mercedes look-alike.

This BRC 49 Evo of  Jean=Marc Tissot was eighth.

With the rain falling, the BRC 05 Evo of Dominique Carifi passes by.

With Lac Chambon below, Tony Pasteau passes by in his Speedcar GTR.

2020 Course de Côte du Mont Dore - CM Motor Cycle Engined Prototypes

The fastest of the CM prototypes on Saturday at Mont Dore was Yves Tholy in this Speedcar GTR.

The CM Prototypes are amongst my favourite cars on the hills of France.  At Mont Dore in August they didn't disappoint and as usual they were fast, noisy and spectacular.  Added to this was the nice variety of marques such as Speedcar, TracKing, Jema, BRC and Silvercar.  These pictures were taken on the Saturday of this CFM championship round near the top of the hill.

2nd fastest of the CM cars was Emilien Thomas in this TracKing RC01.

This Speedcar GTR was third on Saturday driven by Francois Laroche.

Fourth was the TracKing RC01B of Simon Taponard.

The Speedcar GTR of Fabien Borgognon was fith in this group.

Sixth was the Silver Car S2 of Tony Pasteau.

Seventh was this BRC B49 of Jean-Marie Recordier.

This Speedcar GTR was eighth in the hands of Mickael Faucher.

Ninth in the CM Group was Michel Gontier in this BRC B49.

Rounding out the CM top ten on Saturday was the Jema 630 GTR of Michel Perazzi.

36 ème Course de Côte Etretat / Bénouville 2017

As well as the VHC cars at Etretat, there were the usual French competitors from Normandy and beyond competing in the French regional hill climb. Competing against these French guys was John Page, a British competitor, who has been hillclimbing in France for many years in his F3 Ralt.  John did well and won his class and finished in the top ten.  It was a shame that I had to leave early and was unable to congratulate him.   The ASA Côte d'Albâtre did their usual good job of organising this end of summer hill climb over the 1.62 Km course between Etretat and Bénouville in Normandy.

The top twenty fastest cars based on their fastest of three runs, at the Course de Cote Etretat/Benouville.  They were taking part in a round of the Coupe de France de la Montagne and are all shown below in the order that they were classified:

The overall winner was Fabien Ponchant in this F3 Dallara F302.  He was fastest on every run.

Second was this Dallara F307 of Bertrand Lassalle.

Third overall and winner of the sports car class was Alain La Sausse in his Norma M20FC.

Fourth overall was the Dallara F300 of Alban Lapotre.

Second in the sports car classs was William Pommery in this Norma M20B.

Third in the sports car class was Joel Maugy in this Norma M20F 

Seventh overall was this Dallara F308 of Dominique Hamel.

Fastest in the motor cycle engined sports car class was Olivier Dumont in this BRC 05 Evo PEP.

John Page in his F3 Ralt RT32 won his class and was ninth overall.

Rounding out the top ten was this Reynard 873 of Olivier Besnier.

Jean-Yves Doree won his class in this beautiful old Grac MT14S.

Yannick Roussel won his group and class in this Porsche 997 GT3 RS.

Winner of the Formula Renault class was Roger Guezet in this Tatuus FR2000.

Fourteenth overall and second in class was this Jema 630 GT driven by Yves Villain.

Fastest of the Touring Cars was Herve Jean in a Seat Leon Supercopa.

Just beaten in the A4 group was this other Seat Leon Supercopa of Julien Dupont.

An attractive addition to the field was this Jema 610 GT of Pierre-Louis Fouillen.

Janick Janin won his class in this Tatuus FR2013.

Fourth in the motorcycle engined sports cars class was this BRC 02 of Patrick Noe.

In twentieth position overall and winning his class was Michel Bineau in this Nissan Almera Kit Car.
