60ème Course de Côte de La Pommeraye - Voitures de Production - 2024

 

The winner in the Production car category and in the GTTS group was this BMW M3 E92 driven by Yannick Poinsignon.

La Pommeraye was celebrating it's 60th Course de Cote this year.  I was there on Saturday for the practice and first timed run.  The first cars off were the production cars that you see in this blogpost.  This was the fifth round of the Championnats de France de la Montagne - the French hillclimb championship.  The fastest cars in the category are the GTTS cars (various GT Cup, sSpercars, Silhouette Touring Cars and Mitjets).   Yannick Poinsignon has been dominating this category this year in his BMW and looks likely to defend his 2023 title.

Also running in this category are the groups A, FA, N, FN, F2000 and the crowd pleasing FC cars (old Simcas etc).  Examples of all the categories are shown below.

The first car to leave the start line on the first timed run of the 60th running of the Course de Côte de La Pommeraye was this Renault Megane.

The rest of the top ten and winners of their group can be seen below, along with a number of the other runners.:

Second was Anthony Dubois in this Alpine A110 Evo.  He drove well on Saturday and was fastest in practice.

Third was this Porsche 991 GT3 Cup of Jean-Francois Ganevat who also won the 2nd division.

Fourth was this Porsche 991 GT3 Cup driven by Jean-Marc Gandolfo.

Fifth production car and winner of Group A was this Seat Leon Supercopa Mk3 of Sébastien Lemaire.

Sixth production car and winner of Group FC was this wonderful Simca CG Turbo of Christophe Poinsignon

Seventh production car this Simca Rallye III of Romain Richardeau.

Eighth production car was this Seat Leon Supercopa Mk3 of Francis Dosieres.

Ninth production car was this Volvo Touring Cup TC10 of Julien Dupont.

Tenth production car and winner of the GT group was this Porsche 997 GT3 RS of Alexandre Garnier. 

Twelfth production car and winner of the F2000 group was this Honda Civic EP3 Type R of Ferdinand Loton.

Thirteenth production car and winner of Group FN and the Ladies Cup was this BMW M3 E36 of Morane Cat Mackowiak. 

Eighteenth production car and second in the GT group was this Alpine A110 Cup of Yann Durieux.

The Renault RS01 of Philippe Schmitter seen here on the first practice run where he was fastest. However, he was later disqualified from the timed runs for not wearing his fireproof socks!   Otherwise he would have been on the podium.

7ème Course de Côte VHC de La Pommeraye, 2024

 

The fastest VHC car at La Pommeraye was this Reynard 903 driven by Pierre-Alain Bureau.

This was my first time at the Course de Côte de La Pommeraye, which is in the Loire Valley near Angers, which was celebrating its sixty years in 2024.  This is actually only the seventh time that the historic cars have run here.

Running after the modern production cars and before the modern sporting cars, the VHC cars (Véhicule Historique de Compétition) provided some nice variety.  This was a round of the Championnat de France de la Montagne VHC.

Classification was decided by the cumulative time of the best two runs made out of four.  Cars run in different groups and classes as there is a huge variety of types and ages amongst  the 15 or 16 vehicles competing.

I started my day at the first of the esses.  Here is an Alpine A110.

I then moved up to the main viewing area near the passarelle.  This is a Talbot Simca Rallye.

Second fastest VHC was this very quick Ford Escort RS1600 Mk1 driven by Alexandre Chamagne.

Third fastest VHC car was this Martini Mk30 (Formula Renault 1980) driven by Pierre Joly.

Fourth fastest VHC car was this Géri RB08 driven by Daniel Louis.

Sixth fastest VHC was this Porsche 911 SC of Michel Rolland


Seventh fastest VHC car was this Lucchini SP90-Alfa Romeo driven by Christian Bouvier.

Eighth fastest was this Ford Cortina Lotus driven by Philippe Vernay.

Ninth fastest VHC car was this Simca Rallye II driven by Jean-Claude Brazey.

Tenth fastest was this beautiful Volkswagen Scirocco of Jean-Michel Godet.

My Tour Auto 2024 - as told by some favourite cars and pictures

 

The car that I really wanted to see on this year's Tour Auto was this 1971 Ferrari 512M of "Mr John of B" and "Sibel".  Here it is in the pretty village of Floirac.

This blogpost is my story of following the 2024 Tour Auto for 3 days and includes pictures from most places I stopped and those of my favourite cars that didn't make the previous posts as they were not amongst the top ten finishers of their group.   I love the Tour Auto because of the variety of cars from the fifties, sixties and seventies that you get to see - nearly 300 cars in total.

This post really marks the ten years anniversary of this blog as the first event I really covered here was the 2014 Tour Auto.  Click here for that first post on the Tour Auto 2014.

I started following the Tour Auto on Day 2, Wednesday in Gencay.  Here I took pictures of most of the competition cars from different locations around the town.

Not so many Porsche 904s this year.  Here is the 1965 Porsche 904/6 Carrera GTS of "Son of B" and Antoine Gibert in Gencay.


The 1972 Ligier JS2 of Arnaud Haefelin and Pascal Mulet Querner in Gencay.

A Ligier JS2 with a team of drivers that included Gerard Larrousse won the Tour de France Automobile in 1974.

The 1981 Ferrari 308 GrIV Michelotto of Yann and Martin Robin in Gencay.

After Gencay I moved on to the Pont Saint-Syvain between Bourpeuil and l'Isle Jourdain in the Vienne not far from the Circuit Val de Vienne (which I decided to give a miss).

The 1970 BMW 2002 TI of Hugo de Sadeleer and Pascal Gruber on the Pont Saint-Sylvain.

It was now getting late and I still had a distance to go before my night stop in Brive-la-Gaillarde in the Corrèze department which would give me a head start next morning as the Tour Auto cars stopped in Limoges.  During the evening I discovered it was near impossible on my phone to work out where the next day's special stages were and how to access the spectator zones, so I decided to stick to seeing the cars on the road.

The next day I started taking pictures in Martel in the Lot department, my first stop during a long days drive to Carcassonne.

After Martel I stopped a few time at various points on the road towards Floirac.

Floirac in the Lot department was a very pretty old town and I saw many of the Group GHI competition cars pass through.

After Floirac I drove a short distance to Carennac, another beautiful old town.

Then i was back on the road for the long drive to Carcassonne, but stopped now and again to take more pictures.  Unfortunately, along with a number of other enthusiasts I stopped at the wrong place for an hour waiting for cars that never arrived!

In the 1971 Tour de France Automobile, a Ferrari 512M driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille finished second behind the Matra 650 of Gerard Larrousse.

After a night stop in Carcassonne, it was my intention on the Friday to concentrate on the regularity cars as they passed through the Pyrenees.  As I went down to breakfast, I saw they had already started to leave, so I had to take a quicker different route before I caught up with them in Boutx.

After Boutx, I took a detour to the old French GP circuit at Saint-Gaudens (a future blogpost).   Then it was on to my Friday night stop in Pau, to meet my wife where I took some more pictures from a bar over a glass of wine as the regularity cars arrived.   A very enjoyable 3 days!

The 1970 BSH Berlinette of Philippe Champeroux and Sébastien Adam in Pau.

The BSH Berlinette was a French kit car used in competitions and one was entered in the 1970 Tour de France Automobile but retired.  I believe it used Renault mechanicals mounted on  an artisan made chassis and bodywork.

The Parc Fermé in Pau.  It is the same place that they use as the paddock for the Pau GP.
