2019 Dijon Motors Cup! Colmore YTCC Race 2

Lots of variety - A 1967 McLaren M1 and a 1970 Dodge Challenger.

The Dijon Motors Cup has lots of variety.  The Colmore YTCC race was a case in point.  Everything from a Can-Am McLaren to GT cars to Touring Cars.  YTCC stands for Youngtimer Touring Cars Challenge.  I am not sure I would call a McLaren M1C a Youngtimer Touring Car but who cares!   I saw the second race on Saturday and it was getting late and most of the crowd was going home.  The fun part was watching Walter Hoffman climb from the back of the grid tp second place in his McLaren.  The only one he didn't catch was the 1969 7 litre CN-Cobra of Christian Nowak, another rather strange Youngtimer Touring Car!   Despite my reservations about the name, this was a nice field of two to four seater cars from the 60s 70s and 80s.  It is a Dutch series but the field at Dijon was very European with many nationalities taking part.

In sixth place came Swiss driver Urs Steffen in this 1967 Triumph Spitfire GT8.

Dijon MotorsCup 2016 - Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge

The warm up lap and the grid was the only time the other lead cars got close to Roger Billiger's 1971 SCCA Pontiac Transam AM

The Netherlands YTCC or Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge is a series of races held at circuits like Hockenheim, Zandvoort, Spa-Franchorchamps and Dijon-Prenois for cars from the fifties up to 1990. It features drivers from all over Europe who compete in six classes depending on age and performance.

The battle for fourth place on lap one with the 1979 Alpine Renault A310 GrpIV of Randall Lawson leading this group.

The battle for eleventh place on the first lap with the 1975 Porsche 911 of Nils Davidson ahead of a Triumph, a Corvette and an Alfa Romeo.

Further back in this large field Ottokar Krust's 1975 Porsche 911 RSR battles it out with the 1988 BMW M3 E30 of Ruben Anders, whilst the 1978 Porsche 924 of Thomas Baltzer takes an unconventional line.

At the rear of the field Alpine Renaults mix it with a Jensen-Healey, a Porsche and a BMW.

Really great to see the 1973 Jensen-Healey of Kim Christensen racing.  

The 1981 Lotus Sunbeam of Anita Renes finished eighth in class.

Whilst F1 Ferraris were battling with F1 Mercedes-Benz at Susuka in the Japanese GP, we had our own Ferrari vs Mercedes battle at Dijon.   The 1986 Mercedes 190E won its class for Eighties cars.

Randall Lawson's 1979 Alpine Renault A310 GrpIV finished second in class. 

A 1956 Chevrolet Corvette sandwiched between two Porsches.

Urs Steffen in a 1967 Triumph Spitfire GT8 finished second in class to the more powerful Mustang.

It is not often you see a Trabant racing with a Ferrari!

The 1978 Porsche 924 had a great race with Christian Schober's Alpine Renault over many laps.

The oldest car in the race was this 1956 5 litre Chevrolet Corvette of Robert Dubler.  He finished third in class.

This 1969 7 litre Ford Mustang proved a handful for Michael Baumann but he still finished second despite this spin.  He also won the class for the more powerful sixties cars.

Lots of waved blue flags as the Pontiac Transam started to lap everyone

Bart Lemaire was alone in his class in the 1972 Trabant 601 RS and finished last and was lapped many times.

Great variety with a 1956 Corvette leading a 1975 Porsche and a Volkswagen Beetle.

The 1975 Saab 99 EMS of Harm van de Laan.  He finished eleventh in a competitive class.

Robert Bolliger in the Pontiac Transam SCCA was on pole, led the whole race, had fastest lap and won by over 40 seconds.

The 1974 2 litre Opel Kadett C of Thomas Dätwyler  holds off a Porsche.  The Opel won its class.

Dick Waaijenberg's 1979 Ferrari 308 finished third in class and fourth overall.

Still close in the midfield at the end of the race.
