Very good to see this lovely 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 amongst the ten finishers in Group G on this year's Tour Auto. It was crewed by Richard KOLLE/Matthieu MESSEAN |
One of the highlights of my year is attending the Tour Auto, a historic rally in France that commemorates the old Tour de France Automobiles that ran from 1951 to 1986 starting as more of a race and ending up as a rally. The competition cars in the Tour Auto are divided into four categories of which one is Group G that caters for cars from 1966 to 1971. As this was the era of my first experience of attending motor sport events it has to be one of my favourite groups. The winner was a BMW but lovely to see Philippe Vandromme's Ford GT40 competing as always and the lovely Chevrolet Camaro Z28 above.
This year the Tour Auto Optic 2000 was delayed until September but I still attendcd the first day's running as usual. All of the cars were photographed as they passed through the town of Gien that is situated on the River Loire. The positions referenced are the classification within Group G.
