I came to Dijon expecting to see some spectacle and noise from the Maxx Formula cars. I was not to be disappointed as the rain made the conditions very spectacular looking. Unfortunately, the two runners with Formula One cars didn't start, but I don't blame them at all as the conditions were rather bad. However, later in the day after the track dried out Dutch driver Klaas Zwart attempted to beat Alain Prost's unofficial lap record around Dijon that he set back in 1982 when gaining pole position in the Swiss GP. The 2004 Jaguar R5 and its Cosworth V10 engine sounded wonderful and he looked quite fast but narrowly missed beating the record.

The Maxx Formula is for powerful single seaters from the last 30 year and caters for Formula One, Superleague Formula, GP2 cars, World Series by Renault cars, F3000 and others. This year they have raced at Zandvoort, Slovakia Ring and Zolder before coming to the Dijon Motors Cup. Recently, Maxx Formula has become a sanctioned FIA International Racing Series. It is new this year and obviously is similar to Boss GP where a lot of these cars also race.

In the Saturday race at Dijon the French father and son, the Breniers finished 1-2 in their Superleague cars. In the difficult conditions the pole position winner Martin Kindler crashed his 2016 Dallara GP2 car early on and brought out a safety car for much of the 20 minute race. Thanks to all the brave competitors who did race and brought us some cheer during the downpour of rain. Much appreciated! I enjoyed the chance of taking pictures of fast single-seaters in the rain.

We didn't see the car out on track for very long. It is the 2006 F1 Super Aguri-SA06 - Cosworth V10. Wolfgang Jaksch obviously decided the conditions were too bad after the warm up lap and went back to the garage. |
