Vintage Revival Montlhéry 2019 - Plateau C - Amilcars, Bugattis and so much more!

1924 Bugatti T35 1991cc GP car at speed on the Montlhéry banking.
Plateau C at VRM 2019 was a wonderful group of racing and sports cars covering much of the twenties and thirties.   It contained millions of Euros worth of Bugattis as well as other beatiful cars from Amilcar, Aston Martin, Alvis and others.   Having recently been to the Schlumf collection in Mulhouse, I really enjoyed seeing so many T13 Bugattis on this historic banked track.

Cars like this Amilcar C6 raced at Montlhéry in period.   In October 1926 at the Grand Prix du Salon meeting an Amilcar C6 driven by Arthur Duray (an American of Belgian parentage) won the 1,100cc event from a Salmson and a three-wheeler Sandford.  He averaged over 54 mph over the three heats that made up the event, held in very wet conditions.

Bugattis came to the fore after WW1 when racing commenced in 1921.  At the Voiturette race for 1,500cc cars at the Italian GP near Brescia the T13s took the first four places.  Thereafter there were known as Brescia Bugattis.

Alvis in their later years were more known for luxury cars rather than racing cars.  Howver, in 1923 an Alvis did win the important Junior Car Club 200 miles event at Brooklands at over 93mph with a modified 12/50 driven by C.M.Harvey    It was first win in this event for a British car.   For the 1924 event Alvis built a couple of specially built cars cars but they did not repeat their success.
